How does temperature affect plant growth in grow rooms?

It will not come as a surprise that your plants need the right temperature to grow. Photosynthesis only takes place optimally at the correct temperature. This makes finding the correct temperature very important. But which temperature is required for what?


If you grow indoors, it is very important to keep an eye on the temperature in your grow room. Temperature has a large influence on the photosynthesis of the plant. A plant uses photosynthesis to create oxygen and glucose for itself. These building blocks are required for a plant to grow. A plant requires three things for photosynthesis: water, carbon dioxide and light. Light is used as an energy source to create oxygen and glucose from water and carbon dioxide. If the temperature in your grow room lags behind, photosynthesis won't be optimal. This is reflected in the final result of your culture.

Grow room

There is no perfect temperature for growing plants. Instead, temperature is a variable value that you can change during the cultivation of your plants. Each species of plant likes a different temperature. The most important thing is to keep the temperature in your grow room from fluctuating too much. During hours of light, stick to a temperature between 25°C-30°C, depending on your lamp’s light output. During dark hours you can drop this to around 20°C. Make sure to keep the temperature difference between night and day as small as possible. Using differences in temperature you are actually re-enacting seasons. If the difference between night and day is too large or the nights are too cold, your plant will take too long to recover. There is also a larger chance that mildew will start forming. This is not beneficial for your yield.

Nutrient solution

Plant roots are very sensitive to a temperature that is too low or too high. This can lead to stress and damage. We therefore advise a ideal temperature of 22°C for your nutrient solution. At this temperature the water contains sufficient oxygen for your roots and your pump mechanism to function properly. At a lower temperature your pump mechanism may not work as required. A higher temperature means the roots will not absorb enough oxygen from the nutrient solution. Your plants will also have a larger chance of diseases at a high temperature. Be careful when using tap water. This is often too cold for your plants. Always make sure you heat tap water to the correct temperature.

Plagron products

Plagron Allmix is very suitable to use while growing organic at high temperatures. Due to the amount of perlite, Plagron Allmix retains more water in the substrate so less water evaporates. If the water contains base nutrients such as Alga Grow and Alga Bloom, the soil life can get to work and make the nutrition available for the roots of the plant. Do you grow outdoors in Southern Europe or in a grow tent with temperatures higher than 25 ° C? Then choose Plagron Allmix as your organic substrate.
